The Search for Zora

In the search for Zora Neale Hurston’s grave, Alice Walker finds many clues some accurate while others are not so accurate. In the beginning Walker interprets that Hurston lived in Eatonville because of Zora’s well written description of the town. The first person Walker interviews Mrs. Moseley tells her the school Zora attended and that nobody knew her. While Dr. Berton tells that everyone knew Zora and attended her funeral. Mrs. Patterson tells Walker that Zora died of malnutrition which Walker interprets that Zora was a skinny person, but is shocked to find out that she was fat and ate well. Many of the perspectives of the people that Alice receives of Zora are not certain. But Alice interprets for herself which information is more accurate based on a person’s credibility, which I believe is Dr.Benton.

           

            Throughout her search Alice grow more aware of her and the emotions she has towards Zora. Alice also grows in awareness in her cultural heritage as she uncovers more of Zora’s life and recalls on her southern black culture.

Janie's Life Sorrows

Janie poor girl trying to find a place
she is so capricious
Has to make a decision now
she can't keep living like this anymore.
All alone in the world
She belongs to no fold
Treated like trash
and acted to rash.
Thought marriage was love
but now wishes to fly as a dove.
She is silenced and dominate
but she will not break.

She looked for love
but found sorrow instead.
Will she ever find true happines within?

A question to which there is no answer

In Life there are many questions which we seek answers to. Questions that seem to boggle our mind and constantly trouble us. Time and time again the answers elude us and we are left alone and full of ambiguity

Janie is a perfect example of this aphorism. Janie is a middle age "girl" who does not really know what love is. Like many people she is confused into believing that loves comes after marriage, and not the other way around. Janie is a lost cycle of confusion, which seems inescapable.

I believe Janie will never cease to be confused and unsatisfied. Janie is being led by her nanny in highways into the wilderness, to attempt to find love. I don’t blame Janie though since she never had loving parents or any parents to begin with. Janie has never found a love that is remotely real, her nanny is using her for her dowry. Janie is as a child stuck between two bickering parents, and she is capricious. Janie needs to make a firm smart decision in which way she wants to lead her life, or she will be doomed to repeat the past.
The upcoming year for Janie will not bring love, but defeat. She can't keep her spirits high forever. Janie has battered women syndrome and will continued to be abused by men. She will probably never love men again, and become homosexual. 

It is NOT normal to keep feelings hidden from the person you marry.

Many people say that it is normal to keep one’s feelings hidden from the person you marry. I believe that this is not normal and should not be done. When a person gets married, they should talk about their feelings and keep nothing hidden from the other. They should trust each other and expect each other to not judge or criticize one another.

In order for a marriage to survive and prosper, there should constant communication and expression of feeling between spouses. A person who feels they have to hide their feelings from their spouse, for fear of being not understood and unaccepted, should learn to trust in their spouse and not be afraid to express his feeling to her. It is not normal for a person to hide their feelings from their spouse; the person they married and should trust.

            In my religion, we believe that marriage is sacred and that spouse should love and cherish each other. We also believe a marriage cannot only last till death do them part, but for eternity. Thus we need to learn to trust our spouse and express our feeling to one another. If we don’t learn to trust our spouses and express our feelings to them and not hide anything from them in this life, how then will we trust them in eternity?

A New Life over again with the Summer

And as I walked on
